The incident came to light when, in the early hours of July 9, a PCR call was made at the R K Puram police station, saying that a man had been hit by an unidentified car on the service road near RTR Marg in Sector 8, and the driver had fled after committing the crime.
Amit Goel, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West), said, “The victim, Narender Singh, an NSG personnel, was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for medical treatment, and a case under the relevant sections of the BNS was registered.”
An investigation was taken up by the cops, and nearly 100 CCTV cameras that were installed across the Outer Ring Road of Delhi and Noida were meticulously scanned, which eventually led to zeroing in on the suspected vehicle registered in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur.
The police tried to contact Chauhan, whose phone was found switched off, the officer mentioned, by adding that his last active location was near Noida.
“Further technical surveillance and CCTV monitoring placed the vehicle in Noida’s Sector 67, but it soon disappeared,” Goel said.
Continuing in his statement that, “We received intel on Thursday that the accused was present at his native residence. The cops immediately acted on the tip-off and conducted a raid at the location.”
“Chauhan was apprehended, and the car used in the offence was also found,” DCP Goel added.
During the sustained interrogation, he confessed to the crime committed and told the police that he, along with his family, was returning from Haridwar, and due to exertion, he dozed off while driving near RTR Marg, which caused the accident.
His family urged him to stop, but he did not, and fled the spot after dropping his children at Rajokari and went into hiding in Noida to evade arrest, the officer added.
